DNR Firearms Safety Instructor Training - UPDATE

Volunteer Instructors are needed - Here's how to get involved

UPDATE: New Instructor course scheduled for March 2, 2024

Our club has a long history of providing quality Firearms Safety training for kids from ages 11 to 16 and older. If you are one of those instructors, you know how rewarding it can be working with these students to help them begin a safe, life-long hunting career.

If you would like to get involved in teaching these classes, it is best to get started by signing up for the MN DNR's FAS Instructor program. Conservation Officers (CO's) schedule training clinics for new instructors on a regular basis around the state. The one day class, plus a background check, is free and open to everyone over 18 who meet the basic qualifications. Completion gets you certified to teach these classes here at our club or anywhere in the state.

For more details about the program, go to the DNR's Firearms Safety Instructors main page.

To find when and where the next Instructor Clinic will be offered see the DNR Certified Volunteer Instructors Classes page. It lists the date, location and county where these clinics will be held. You can even sign up for email notifications of upcoming classes there.

If you aren't sure, but have questions about what we instructors do here in our club you can contact Steve Wolverton. Steve has been teaching these courses for decades and organizes the classes we offer each spring and late summer. You can reach Steve by calling 651-437-6865.

Teaching young students to be safe, responsible hunters can be one of the most gratifying ways we can earn our club volunteer hours. And the members who have been doing this are always ready to welcome those who want to learn and pitch in to help
.
